Important Notes on “Advance Reservations” and “Same-Day Entry”

• [ Individual Reservations ] Accepted from 14 days in advance (excluding closed days) up to 30 minutes before

  • ■Capacity is 60 people per session (40 with advance reservations, 20 without reservations), and the facility operates on a complete turnover system.
  • ■Individual reservations are online only. Reservations open 14 days in advance (excluding closed days) via the admission reservation form and are accepted up to 30 minutes before.
  • *Please set your device (smartphone, etc.) to receive emails from “yoyaku@reserve1.jp”.
  • ■You may make up to one reservation per group per day.
  • ■You may reserve for up to 4 people per booking (including infants and preschool children).
  • ■Please show staff the reservation completion email screen, a printed copy, or a note with your reservation number when entering.

• [ Group Reservations / Inspection Visit Reservations ]

  • ■If you would like to enter as a group (5 or more people) or request an inspection visit by government-related personnel, please contact us via the inquiry form.
  • ■In principle, group entry is available on weekdays only. Please contact us separately to discuss time slots.
  • ■Inspection visits that include staff explanations and handouts are available on weekdays only, and the reception time will be arranged after you apply. Please note that a fee may apply in some cases. For details, please contact us via the inquiry form.

• [ About Cancellations ]

  • ■Please refrain from canceling without notice.
  • ■If you need to cancel, you can do so via the URL in the email you received when you made the reservation.
  • ■Click the URL to go to the top page. Click the “Reservations and Admission” button to go to the reservation page, then proceed using the “Inquiry/Cancel” button at the top of the page. To cancel, you will need the email address used at the time of reservation and your reception number.

• [ Same-Day Entry Registration ] (Capacity: 20 people per session* Complete turnover system)

  • ■Registration starts 10 minutes before the entry start time.
  • ■Waiting lines formed anywhere other than where staff direct you to line up will be considered invalid.
  • *If advance reservations do not reach 40 people, we will accept entry (advance reservations + same-day) until the total reaches 60 people.
  • *During events, same-day entry without a reservation may not be available, so please check our website.

How to Use the Facility

• How to Spend Time Inside

  Please feel free to enjoy reading in a space surrounded by books.
  Please return books to their original place after reading. You can also return them to the book return basket or the counter. This is a library where it’s okay to talk. Please speak in a gentle voice that won’t carry to the person next to you.

• Using the Reading Seats

  When it is crowded, we give priority for reading seats to children. Thank you for your cooperation.
  Please refrain from studying or bringing in/using laptops, etc. (Please keep them in your bag.) Also, please refrain from making phone calls.

• About the Bookshelves

  Books on the upper shelves are secured to prevent them from falling. The same books are available on the lower shelves, so if you can’t find what you’re looking for, please ask a staff member.

• For Visitors with Babies

  A nursing room is available. The nursing room has formula-preparation equipment (hot water dispenser). For diaper changes, please use the baby bed in the multipurpose restroom. Please refrain from entering with strollers.

• For Seniors, Visitors with Disabilities, and Wheelchair Users

  A ramp provides access to the entrance. The multipurpose restroom has ostomate-friendly facilities.

• If You Want to Read Outside “Kodomo Hon no Mori”

  Except during bad weather and the winter season, you may read outdoors anywhere on the Hokkaido University campus. Please speak to a staff member.

• Bringing in Personal Belongings

  There are no coin lockers in the facility. Please keep your belongings with you. For security reasons, please refrain from leaving belongings unattended for long periods or reserving seats with belongings.
  Please note that, depending on the situation, staff may move your belongings.
  Please refrain from bringing sharp items (umbrellas, parasols, etc.) or anything that could harm others into the facility. (Umbrella stands are available.)
  Please note that we cannot take responsibility for loss or damage to belongings inside the facility.

• Food and Drink

  You may bring in drinks with lids, such as plastic bottles, as well as water bottles. Eating is not allowed inside the facility.
  There are no trash bins inside. Please take your trash home with you.

• If There’s a Problem with a Book

  If you tear or stain materials, please let a staff member know. If the condition makes it unpleasant for the next person to read, we may ask you to provide compensation.
  If you notice damage or stains from the start, please inform staff as well.

• Photography

  Photography is allowed for personal use only.
  Please follow proper etiquette so as not to disturb other visitors.
  The use of support equipment such as monopods and tripods, including selfie sticks, is not allowed.

• Compensation

  In principle, you will be asked to purchase the same material as compensation. If in-kind replacement is not possible (out of print, etc.), you will be asked to purchase a substitute item.

• Footwear During the Winter Season

  Please refrain from wearing shoes with spikes, as they may damage the floor.

• Entering on Rainy Days / During the Winter Season

  Please wipe off mud, etc. from your shoe soles thoroughly on the entrance mat before coming in.

• Universal Services

  We accept advance consultations for visitors coming with children with disabilities.

• Bringing Pets, etc. into the Facility

  Please refrain from bringing animals into the facility, except for assistance dogs for persons with physical disabilities, such as guide dogs.

• Goods

  We sell original goods inside the facility. Payment can be made by e-money, credit card, or barcode payment.
  Cash payments are not accepted.
